Professor Jeffrey Wix

Professor Wix has been active in research and development of IT for building construction since 1980.
In 1988 he developed low-cost CAD for construction and building services applications.
He returned to research consultancy in 1993 and is active in developing next generation software applications, information sharing capabilities between software and strategies for information development within major organisations.
Current key work involves developing ICT supported regulation representation and checking systems, creating new forms of cost and environmental impact representation, and defining shared data links between the civil/infrastructure and building construction worlds.
He leads work in development of the ‘Information Delivery Manual’ for delivery of discrete sets of information in specific business processes, focussing on the definition of business objects within a process framework and how they can be supported by information sharing and ontology.
He is engaged in standards development for building information modelling, data exchange and dictionary frameworks within ISO, CEN and BSI.
He is a member of the Model Support Group of the IAI, and led development of the IFC 2x information model.
In November 2006, his work on the development of IFC and buildingSMART standards was recognized with an award presented by the US National Institute of Building Sciences.
